INGREDIENTS

For Meatballs

  • 1 cup of diced white sandwich bread
  • 1 white onion
  • 100 gm ground pork
  • 400-gram ground beef
  • ¼ cup of fresh parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • ¼ cup of grated parmesan
  • ¼ teaspoon of black pepper

For Meatball Sauce

  • 2 ½ tablespoon of olive oil
  • ¾ cup of finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 700 gram of tomato paste
  • ½ cup of water
  • 3 dried Italian herb mix
  • 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Parsley, parmesan, or choice of pasta (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Take a regular box grater and grate the onion in a large bowl. You need to have ½ cup of grated onion. Now, add the bread to the onion and mix it. The bread should soak in the juices of onion and disintegrate. Keep the bowl aside while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Take another bowl and add in the remaining ingredients of the meatball. Mix it well using your hand. Take a tablespoon at a time and form a ball. Take a non-stick frying pan and heat 1 ½ tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high. Now, add the meatballs to the pan and let them fry for 4 minutes or till it is browned. Make sure that the meat is cooked through. Take it out and put them in a plate.
  3. For cooking the sauce, you will have to add 1 tablespoon of olive oil onto the frying pan. Add garlic and onion. Saute this till it is translucent. Put in the red of the sauce ingredients. Lower the flame and let it cook till it splatters. When it is done, pour it the meatballs in and cook it for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Serve it with fresh parsley, parmesan, or cooked pasta.

NOTES

  • Instead of frying, you can bake the meatballs for 20 minutes at 400 degree Fahrenheit.
