Bundt is a special way of cake preparation and can be an easy yet unique recipe to try. When we talk of Bundt cakes they are usually baked in a Bundt pan which helps to shape the cake into a distinctive ring. The shape was traditionally inspired by the Gugelhupf cake, which is a European cake recipe. Bundt cakes are not associated with any singular recipe. It simply refers to the mold that is used. It was popularized in the fifties and sixties in North America. Nordic Ware obtained a trademark for the name Bundt and they started the production of Bundt pans which were made from cast aluminum.

The history of Bundt cakes is interesting to note. The original Gugelhupf cake, which was brioche-like, was a form that was popular among the Jewish and was found in different parts of Poland, Austria and Germany. The word is derived from Bundkuchen which is a German name.  There are varying references made to the Bund word. In certain cases it is said to represent a bunch or a bundle. This might be due to the way the dough bundles up around the tubed center of the pan.

Before you start making the cake, preheat the oven to a temperature of 325 degrees. Butter up a Bundt pan of 14 cup dimensions. Take a large bowl and whisk in baking soda along with flour and cocoa as well as salt. In a separate cup, measure out the sour cream and milk. Use an electric mixer and beat the sugar and butter till a pale and fluffy mixture is formed. Add in the eggs and beat well along with the vanilla extract. Reduce the speed and add in the flour mixture slowly. Finally, add in the milk and flour. Once the mixture is being smooth, transfer the batter into the prepared Bundt pan. Smooth out the top. Put in the cake and bake for about 30-40 minutes or more. When the tester comes out clean, it is time to take the cake out from the oven and transfer onto a wire rack.

Make the glaze by simmering the cream, chocolate and butter in a pan till a smooth mixture is formed. This should thicken after which it can be poured as a glaze on the cake. For Mouth Watering Themed Cake Ideas For Celebrations, Go Here.
